The latest installment in the Sins of a Solar Empire franchise from Stardock and Ironclad Games is out now on Steam. Twelve years after the original, the new game takes everything from the original and turns it up to 11, with many new features added to increase the overall scope, depth, and replayability.
In keeping with tradition, a vibrant creator community has already formed around the game which is being powered by our friends at mod.io. Some of our favorite and popular mods already are listed below:
SzepysChokepoint
Chokepoint maps collection(from 1v1 to 5v5), will add more stuff in the future(and polish it properly), testing the whole mod workflow for now.
More Techs (Repeatables)
Adds repeatables to the game in the form of a new domain at the bottom of both civilian and military research. All factions have access. Most techs are universal, ie everyone has the same research, so different factions may find certain repeatables more or less valuable, or more or less difficult to acquire.
All Races Structures 1 slot w/no slot extractors
Changes all space structures to cost 1 civilian or military build slot. Metal and Crystal extractors do not cost a slot anymore. This is the all in 1 version for those who don't like multiple downloads.
Supply / Logistic / Titans / Ships
More Supply , Increase Titan Limit , More Planet Component Slots , More Ship Component Slots.
Max Capital-Ship Component Slots
Increased all Capital Ship component slot limit from 4 to 8.
In terms of what has changed in the base gameplay, Sins of a Solar Empire II offers a modern user-interface (UI), more nuanced six playable factions, lore-friendly, and tactically asymmetric interactions, keeping players on their toes. Minor Factions also play a more dynamic role, offering interesting choices and powerful benefits throughout the game.
Highlighted Changes Include
- Strategic Simulation
One of the most exciting new features is "Orbiting Planets." - Tactical Simulation
Ships now have Armor Points, Hull Points, Shield Points, and Durability, adding layers of tactical nuance. - Faction Differences
The distinction between the main player races has been further refined, offering unique gameplay experiences rooted in each faction's lore and strategic ethos. - Technical Advancements
A ground-breaking multicore 64-bit engine, designed to elevate the game's graphics, performance, and technical capabilities.
I always wanted to play this.
I should definitely keep up with the new SoaSE and its mods as soon as possible.
I Just watched the movie Flash Gordon from 1980. That is such a good movie it would make an epic Sins mod. Something completely original.
