Welcome to Resident Evil - Barry's Mod. I have been working on this mod for Resident Evil PC since around may 2019. What started off as an experiment with me changing in-game sounds slowly grew into a large scale modification for Resident Evil. I slowly began to learn how to edit sounds, graphics, enemies, items, 3D models and more. I hope everyone who plays this mod enjoys it as much as I have making it. It's been a lot of work and passion to get this mod completed and I hope it shows. This mod is created by a fan, for the fans.
Resident Evil - Barry's Mod v2.1c
After 2 years, Barry's Mod has finally been updated with a whole bunch of new features,
fixes and improvements. Experience the survival horror one more time in a new,
fresh and exciting way!
Removed 2nd Magnum
I have removed the use of two Magnum weapons as this was a poor choice of gameplay.
Now there is only one which you will start the game with.
New Routes
You will now take several new routes through the game in order to find
keys, health items and other resources.
Changed Item Locations
Many of the item locations have been changed to provide a new fresh experience.
Changed Some Puzzle Solutions
The solutions to two puzzles have been changed.
One in the Spencer Mansion and another in the Arklay Research Lab.
Removed Narrative Choices
I have removed the choices the game provides which can affect how the game story will
progress. The reason for this is that some choices have no affect on what happens and
I also wanted to force Barry's Mod to have both the 'Good' and 'Best' endings available.
Updated Cutscene Text
I have added names to the cutscene text to provide clarity on who is talking and when.
Updated Boss Battles
You will now be forced to fight the bosses in Resident Evil. Many advanced
players would simply run passed or use speed running techniques to avoid
fighting the bosses. Now you will need to stock up on supplies and prepare for each battle.
Added My Intro Logo
Added my introduction logo which is based off the Capcom original.
Changed Textures To Originals
I have changed the character and monster textures back to the original
1996 versions for the sake of authenticity.
Changed Music & Sound Effects To Originals
I have also changed the music and sound effects back to the original 1996 versions
for the sake of authenticity.
Updated Item Screen Portrait
Barry Burton has had a new face icon added to the item screen to better
match the original face icons.
Adjusted Weapon Damage To Bosses
I have tweaked the damage certain weapons will do to certain bosses. The reason for
this was because I felt some boss monsters felt far too easy to defeat. One example is
the Tyrant now needing 6 magnum shots rather than only needing 3 shots like the original.
Added Bonus Costumes
There are 2 bonus costumes for Barry which can be unlocked by completing the game and getting
the 'Special Key' which unlocks the closet room.
• Much more...
Capcom has announced a new event covering info on their newly announced titles, and since Resident Evil is part of that line-up, here's five mods to practice...
Resident Evil (Barry's Mod) is a stand-alone release. Simply download and play. Experience the horror from a new perspective!
A very interesting mod. I didn't know what had been changed, so I proceeded carefully and reached the results screen in two hours and fifteen minutes. It is an excellent work that depicts a story that could have possibly happened. As with all modding, bugs can be a headache, but there were no fatal bugs in this work, and I was able to progress smoothly. The use of assets from the 1998 version also contributes to increasing the "realism" as intended by the author.
The difficulty curve is also appropriate. At the beginning, there are few bullets to pick up, so you have to use a knife, but once you get a shotgun, you will gradually have more supplies and it will become the usual Resident Evil, so it's not that difficult. There is a sense of tension in the beginning and a sense of exhilaration in the latter half.
He starts the mission with a fully loaded magnum, but this doesn't make the story any easier. Even though he has a more powerful weapon from the start, the balance doesn't make it too easy, which is a nice touch from the author. Oh, in the latter half, you'll have more bullets for the magnum, so you can play in a way that's more like Barry.
As a post-game treat, AYDAN has prepared two costumes for Barry. I won't reveal everything because it would be a spoiler, but one of the costumes may be a homage to Barry from "GAIDEN." The equipment is slightly different, but it looks like it. The dark color makes his body look more toned, which makes it even better.
If there was a DLC (or a dual shock version, or maybe an additional story in the director's cut version) that told Barry's story in the 90s, it would have looked exactly like this. It's a great work that everyone should play.
If I were to give my amateur opinion, after completing the game, if you meet the conditions, the MINIMI and rocket launcher will be added as starting equipment like in vanilla, but if the infinite magnum was added as a more user-friendly option to reflect Barry's personality, it would be even more different and interesting.
Report to the author: I am encountering an issue where the "Power room key" remains in the inventory for some reason. Or rather, it seems that there was no situation in which this key was used in the first place. As someone who has played a large-scale user-made modding, I would like to report this just in case. You are a great modder who has also made great moddings for Resident Evil: Survivor. I am looking forward to the V3.0 of the Barry mod, which will be released someday.

Hey, I encountered an error with the replica shotgun room.
The problem is the door where you run into the first zombie, the one that opens on the inside. When you unlock it and come back through it, it uses the armor key 's count or something and the key disappears earlier, missing 1 door.
So in one playthrough, I could not get the shotgun, lol.

Also, this version is currently not newcomer friendly to the series. I'm a veteran RE player and having to knife the first zombie flawless to save ammo. It is kind of hard in a weird way due to the lack of ammo, and 2-4 rooms were switched to other keys. So players seem to have to fight more mobs first before they get to the supplies.
I think you need to make Barry start with 6 extra magnum ammo and restore the magnum ammo to the Forest balcony. It doesn't make sense for him to carry his trusted weapon into a mission and not have backup ammo. Just add a few more additional enemies in some areas that Barry runs into that the others didn't, that will balance it out.
Else it feels a little like a randomizer gameplay, just with different sprites (and lack of ammo, lol). :P

Hey Aydan, great work! Very authentic and cool mod... Will you also consider making Rebecca mod replacing Jill in the future, since Rebecca is another survivor? It would be really nice to see Rebecca's side of story in the mansion unfold after the events of RE 0. Keep up the good work, man.
